The difference between an aqua boxing bag and a regular boxing bag

Working out with a boxing bag is gaining popularity. That is logical because you have all the advantages of (martial arts) training without the disadvantages. You throw punches and kicks without having to absorb them yourself. In addition, you don't need a sparring partner when using a boxing bag (also known as a punching bag), and you're less likely to get injured. Working out with a boxing bag is effective and has many benefits.

Boxing bags with traditional filling such as sand or sawdust are available, as well as boxing bags filled with water. When using aqua boxing bags, you train with water resistance. In this blog, we'll dive deeper into the difference between the traditional punching bag and the aqua boxing bag, so you can choose what is the best approach for your workout.

What is a boxing bag

The 'classic' punching bag is filled with sand. Wool, textile chips, sawdust, leather chips and rubber are also often used.

The bag is usually made of leather or sturdy textile (bisonyl) that looks like the tarp you often see on trucks and is easy to keep clean. In addition, this material lasts a long time, even when used intensively. Leather punching bags are often a little more expensive than a plastic punching bag.

Classic punching bags filled with sand are often harder and are ideal for an intermediate to advanced athlete. If you are a beginner, you should opt for softer padding such as textile chips or wool, for example the Tunturi Boxing Bag, which is filled with a combination of textile chips and rubber.

At what height should you hang a punching bag?

You can hang a punching bag on the ceiling with a ceiling ring and boxing bag spring, or with a wall hook. The Tunturi Boxing Bags come with a four-point chain. A ceiling ring and boxing bag spring can be purchased separately. The height at which you hang the bag depends on your own height. The top of the boxing bag should be 10 centimeters higher than your height. Do you have a longer boxing bag that is also suitable for throwing kicks? Then it should hang 30 centimeters above the ground.

A wall bracket generally hangs around 75 centimeters from the wall. When purchasing, make sure that the bracket can carry the desired weight of the punching bag. Tunturi gives you a choice between two wall brackets: up to 70 kilos and up to 100 kilos.

Are you buying a separate chain for the punching bag? Note: the longer the chain with which you hang the punching bag from the ceiling, the more unstable the bag is and the more it can swing with every kick or punch. Do you have a high ceiling? Then choose a wall mount.
